Having never experienced mental issues before, I found myself at the age of 52 inexplicably crippled by both depression and anxiety – I railed against the idea of a psychiatrist, as that to me indicated that I had failed to “pull myself together/sort it out for myself”, but the weeks went by, and as my physical and mental health plummeted it became clear that I needed to get some proper professional help; but how do you fix a brain?! – what a RELIEF to speak to Dr. Arora; he listened patiently for over an hour and a half, told me that I WOULD get better, and devised a plan of both medication and counselling… Four years on, I can honestly say that my consultation with Dr. Arora was THE turning point in my recovery – he was kind, thoughtful and empathetic ( and he laughed at my jokes too), and I have been supported by both him AND his lovely secretary Jill Hing all the way through – a couple of “wobbles” have been efficiently and sympathetically dealt with, and I know that if needed I can turn to him at any point in the future - I simply cannot recommended him highly enough… THANK YOU NIRAJ!!!

I was introduced to Dr Arora by a psychologist at Cardinal Clinic Old Windsor, who wanted me to see a psychiatrist before starting our sessions. I’m so happy i got Dr Arora assigned to me. He’s so kind and gentle, listens, doesn’t judge, asks your opinion on his thoughts, you decide on a treatment plan together. He has a lovely sense of humour which he incorporates into the sessions, makes it feel like you’re talking to a friend rather than a Dr. I would recommend him to everyone.

For anyone suffering any mental health issues, I would highly recommend that you see Niraj.arora@cardinalclinic.co.uk. For several years I have suffered from depression and anxiety, and after being bounced around by my local NHS team I sought professional advice. Upon the session with Niraj, we touched on my having undiagnosed ADHD, which I was unaware of and that had not been picked up before by several other Doctors. After a follow up appointment I was diagnosed, and the outcome has been life changing for me. I feel as though a light has been switched on, and I will be forever grateful for the work done by Niraj. He is very polite and understanding, with a genuine caring personality. I could not thank him enough.

I was recommended to Dr. Arora by my previous psychiatrist at the Cardinal Clinic and he has been nothing but stellar in his approach to my mental healthcare and in his friendliness, understanding, and knowledge in very recent areas of psychological awareness. The treatment course he has provided me with has helped me to no end and I have made improvements in leaps and bounds since transferring to him in conjunction with my current psychologist, their partnership has led me down a path that I wish everyone struggling had the opportunity to experience.

I feel very lucky to have found Dr Arora and would highly recommend him. I had been seen by another consultant at the Cardinal Clinic for around 3-4 years and each time I dreaded the appointment as I would be lectured and criticised for being ill again, rather than supported in my recovery. Dr Arora was totally different and sought to listen and understand rather than judge and tell me what was going on before I'd even finished my sentence. The relationship between doctor and patient with Dr Arora is collaborative, he doesn't tell me what to do, we discuss things, he asks me what I think, he suggests what he thinks might be helpful and we make decisions together. He can make suggestions that sometimes make me think "why didn't I think of that?" and there have been real lightbulb moments where things have suddenly made much more sense. I was in the very fortunate position that when I was deciding to switch consultants I was an inpatient at the time, and so was able to witness different consultants as they came into the waiting room to collect their patients (this was pre-covid). I noticed that Dr Arora always smiles and greets his patients and is very warm and welcoming. I was also able to ask fellow inpatients who were under his care what he was like and I didn't hear anyone say a bad word about him. I can't claim to have spoken to a statistically representative sample, but given every one of his patients I spoke to recommended him, I knew he must be doing something right! Our initial meeting was a few days after I was discharged from the inpatient programme, so I have always seen Dr Arora as an outpatient. Dr Arora went through my history with me, asked me lots of questions and let me explain how I felt. He really listened and I immediately felt like he 'got it'. At the end he said he agreed with one diagnosis but also added an additional diagnosis of complex PTSD which the previous consultant had been very dismissive of. She didn't ever ask me any questions about trauma in order to assess this fully. I don't think she was interested! To have Dr Arora validate those experiences and with a diagnosis was a relief. I have never felt judged or criticised for not making progress quickly enough. I don't feel like I have to explain myself with Dr Arora like I did with my previous consultant. He's realistic that recovery can take a long time and putting pressure on makes it take even longer. I've been seeing Dr Arora as an outpatient for almost a year now, either virtually or in person when restrictions allowed. Things are so much better than last January: the inpatient nursing team at the Cardinal set me on the right track, I have a very good psychologist external to Cardinal Clinic but Dr A has made a difference on the psychiatry side to leave me in a much better place even after the kind of year 2020 was. He keeps my psychologist informed via letter (which I also receive) and updates my GP where necessary with any medication tweaks. If you're not sure who to see at Cardinal Clinic, try to get Dr Arora! I wish I had first time around!
